where: alva, florida, c & l farms
details: there's a very sweet fruit stand that's open saturday mornings that's right around the corner from our apartment. it's totally fine most weeks, but i had some recipes in mind, and was hoping for a more robust selection of produce. i did a little searching online, and found c & l farms. alva's not exactly a hopping town (i'm almost convinced this farm may be the social epicenter for the locals, actually), but it's only 20 minutes down the road--and a lovely, scenic drive! when we arrived, i made a bee line for the fruit and started loading up. i'm not exaggerating when i say 20 bucks will buy you a weeks worth of produce, and i eat a ton of fruits and veggies. from this trip came a stellar peach cobbler, 3 homemade pizzas, yams for lunch all week (yum!), fruit toppings for cereal, ice cream, and yogurt, as well as a ton of interesting sides. plus, i don't feel as guilty about all the sweets when i compensate with this much greenery. worth the trip!
